Founders

The concept for the International Workshop on Requirements Engineering and Law was founded in 2007 in New Dehlhi, India, by Annie Antón, Travis Breaux, Dimitris Karagiannis and John Mylopoulos. The first workshop was held one year later.

Dr. Annie Antón is a full Professor of Computer Science at North Carolina State University. Dr. Antón's research focuses on methods and tools to improve privacy and security in software requirements and systems. She is an IEEE Senior Member, the founder of ThePrivacyPlace.org, chair of the NCSU Public Policy Committee and a member of the U.S. ACM Public Policy Executive Committee.
Dr. Travis Breaux is an Assitant Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Breaux's research interests include legal requirements acquisition and evidence-based methods to demonstrate software system compliance with laws and regulations. He is an IEEE member, the director of the Requirements Lab at CMU, and a member of the U.S. ACM Public Policy Council.
Dr. Dimitris Karagiannis is a full Professor and founder of the Department of Knowledge Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Informatics at the University of Vienna. His research focuses on knowledge management and engineering and meta-modeling with continuing business applications focusing also on governance aspects
Dr. John Mylopoulos is a full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Trento. Dr. Mylopoulos' research interests include requirements engineering and data semantics. He served as General Chair (2011) and PC Chair (1997) of the IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference and co-editor of the Requirements Engineering journal (2000-08).
